• The requirements for Mexican freight companies operating within Border Commercial Areas are generally the same as those of American companies. Mexican companies must also apply for and be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and must have their USDOT and ICCMX registration numbers on their tractors. These procedures are performed by the Federal Autotransport Safety Administration for Mexican companies.

• American freight companies involved in international trade must be registered with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and must have their registration number from the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) on their trucks. In addition to vehicle safety compliance, companies must meet numerous other requirements including insurance, driver skills, logbook, and company safety history.
